| “1877” Riot on Lackawanna Avenue |

Scranton, PA - The Lackawanna Historical Society and Anthracite Heritage Museum will co-sponsor a Historical production depicting the 1877 labor strikes and August 1st riot which occurred at the intersection of Washington and Lackawanna Avenue. The Great Railroad strike forced the closing of our local mines and caused the working men of our city to riot. Four lives were lost and the Mayor was badly beaten, “1877” Riot on Lackawanna Avenue will bring to life the significance of this local historical event in honor of its 130th Anniversary.
It is an original play written by Margo Azzarelli and directed by Dominick Azzarelli both local historians who have been involved in prior productions with the Lackawanna Historical Society and Anthracite Heritage Museum.
This project is supported by a Lackawanna County Arts and Cultural Grant, a program of the Lackawanna County Commissioners and the Lackawanna County Council on the Arts.
This is a premiere production for the Iron Furnaces. The program will be presented on Saturday, August 4th, and Sunday, August 5th at 2:00 p.m. at the Scranton Iron Furnaces, 159 Cedar Avenue, Scranton. Tickets will be sold at the gate.
