Lackawanna County Conservation District Receives Environment Education Grant

The Lackawanna County Conservation District received a $2,373 environmental education grant from The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to plant habitat gardens at Riverside East and Carbondale Area elementary schools. The students were involved in the design and planting phases of the project, which provided an opportunity for them to learn about local wildlife and the surrounding habitat. In Carbondale, high school students worked with the elementary youngsters on the project and J.S. Wright Excavating and Underground Utilities of Carbondale donated time and equipment for the venture. At Riverside East, students, parents and community volunteers worked on the garden project, and Rich Grzyboski Landscaping of Moosic donated mulch and top soil.
