| The Board of County Commissioners created the Lackawanna County Regional Planning Commission on June 16, 1959. Pursuant to the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (Act 247 as amended), the Commission is responsible for policy decisions concerning the planning program and recommendations on subdivision and land development proposals and local land-use regulations. The Commission has nine board members appointed to four-year terms by the County Commissioners. The Planning Commission is headed by the Director of the Department of Planning & Economic Development and currently has six full-time staff members to carry out the various state-mandated planning activities and numerous additional activities for the county. |

Links to Partner Agencies COUNTY LINES 2008 The 2008 edition of County Lines, a 134-page resource on Lackawanna County, is now available from the Lackawanna County Regional Planning Commission. Published annually since 1990, County Lines contains a wealth of information on the county, its 40 municipalities and 12 school districts, including history, geography, government, demographics, statistics, quality of life, elected and appointed officials, directories, maps, trivia, and more. The book is free to schools, government and nonprofit agencies (a limit of two per school or agency). The cost to the general public is $25.00 per copy.
