| Information Technology is a central service organization that provides county departments with staff and technical resources necessary to meet their individual missions with computer, communication and administrative services. |

IT provides technical oversight in the procurement, development and maintenance process for software and hardware systems for the majority of county departments. IT also coordinates county-wide computer networking and telephone systems. The Office Services group provides county departments with high speed copying and mail services. Your County IT Department Is Thinking Green To Save Taxpayers Money We are going virtual. Slowly and steadily we are replacing power hungry desktop computers with energy efficient virtual terminals using blade server technology. A recent study shows that physical desktop pc's on average use 250 watts compared to 45 watts used by virtual terminals. But why stop there? We also replaced more than 80 percent of our servers with virtual servers. This creates a more manageable infrastructure and saves even more energy while eliminating physical bare metal servers. Looking to save even more money, we are hard at work eliminating most of our connecting network lines. We are replacing them with low cost yet powerful point-to-point VPN connections, saving Lackawanna County over $70,000 per year. |
