Commissioner Matt McGloin
McGloin 5 - Copy

Matt McGloin was born and raised in the West Side neighborhood of Scranton, Pennsylvania. By the time McGloin reached high school age he took the reins of the West Scranton football team as quarterback, a position in which he quickly excelled.

He led the team to two PIAA Class AAA district titles and a league title as a three-year starter. For most high school athletes, the story ends here. For McGloin, this was just the beginning.

In 2008, Matt was invited to Penn State University as a walk-on quarterback, a non-scholarship athlete. Five years later, when Matt walked off that deep green Beaver Stadium grass for the final time, he had thrown a school record 46 touchdowns and a second best in Penn State Football history 6,390 yards.

After graduating from Penn State with a BA in Broadcast Journalism – Matt was signed to, and played quarterback for, various teams in the National Football League for six years, most notably with the (then) Oakland Raiders.

As proud as McGloin is of his achievements on the field, he takes the greatest pride in what he has done off the field throughout the last seven years, leading the ‘Matt McGloin Fund’ back at home in Lackawanna County. The ‘Matt McGloin Fund’, which Matt launched in 2016, focuses on supporting the health and well-being of children and young adults. This includes annual scholarships for high school graduates, funding children’s health care needs, supporting homeless youth, and myriad other worthy recipients.

He will serve as vice-chairman of the Board of Commissioners, and continue as a television and radio co-host and analyst for Big Ten Network and SIRIUS XM Radio college football. Matt and his wife, Bailey, live in Waverly Township with their two boys and their Labrador Retriever, Rudy. Matt and Bailey decided to live and raise their family here because they believe there is no other place in the world like Lackawanna County. They appreciate and value the people who make each community so special, vibrant, and all its own.
