Commissioner Bill Gaughan

Bill Gaughan was born and raised in the Minooka section of Scranton, Pennsylvania.  He currently resides in South Scranton with his Wife Kellie and five children; Jack, Murphy, Maeve, Mary, and Delia. 

Bill graduated from the University of Scranton and with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications with a minor in History in 2009.  He earned a Master ofGaughan 2 - Copy Arts Degree in Secondary Education History from the University of Scranton in 2012.  He received his Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Social Studies and English in 2012.  He recently earned his Administrative Principal Certificate from the University of Scranton in 2020.  He has taught American Government for the past 8 years at the Commonwealth Charter Academy. 

Bill has several years of experience in public service.  First, he worked as an equal opportunity specialist in the City of Scranton's Office of Economic and Community Development from 2011 to 2013.  He was elected to Scranton City Council in 2014 and served for eight years.  He served as Public Works chairperson from 2014 to 2020.  He was selected by his colleagues to be the President of the City Council from 2020 to 2022.
