Penn State Extension To Conduct Food Safety Certification Course

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) requires food establishments regulated by PDA or a local health agency to employ at least one employee who has successfully completed a certified food safety training course. Penn State Extension is offering such a course this May which fulfills PDA’s requirements for food employee certification.

ServSafe® will be taught on Monday, May 5, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Monday, May 12, from 8:30 a.m. – Noon at the Hampton Inn, 22 Montage Mountain Road, Scranton.  The exam will begin at 10 a.m. on May 12.  The cost of the course is $175 and includes the textbook and exam.

Topics include the microworld, contamination and food-borne illness, flow of food through the operation, clean and sanitary facilities, equipment and food-safety regulations and standards, and employee food-safety training.
