Local 4-H Members Place At Regional Fashion Revue

Seven Lackawanna County 4-H textile science members from the Glenburn Sewing Club recently competed in the regional 4-H fashion revue in Mehoopany.  The individuals were: Ava Ramsey, South Abington Township; Hannah Conahan, Anna Domiano, Lara Kane, Alanna Mecca, and MariKay VanFleet, Clarks Summit; and Emily Northup, Carbondale.

Thirty-five members from Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Bradford, Sullivan, Tioga and Wyoming Counties had their garments judged for appearance, fit, design, and fashion and construction techniques.  In addition, participants attended workshops on modeling, arm knitted scarves, and hair styles.

The day concluded with a fashion show and awards ceremony. Hannah Conahan was named winner in the senior wearable division. In addition, MariKay VanFleet and Alanna Mecca were named as senior division alternates.

Ms. Conahan will represent the region at the state fashion revue on the main campus of Penn State University on August 5. She will compete against 4-H members from across the state for the top 12 places.

The 4-H textile science program is sponsored by Penn State Extension.  It teaches youth, ages eight to eighteen, clothing construction skills and also increases their self-esteem, poise and confidence.
