Lackawanna County Commissioners Announce Funding For Six More Community Re-Invest Projects

Six new projects, focusing on such areas as youth activities, recreation, social services and outdoor improvements, were approved for funding by the Lackawanna County Commissioners through their Community Re-Invest Program totaling $99,500.

Since the Community Re-Invest Program was established in July of 2013, the Commissioners have approved grants for 100 projects totaling $1,474,475.  In all of the projects, the Community Re-Invest Program has provided the “last mile” funding to help complete the initiatives, which has allowed these valuable community projects to come to fruition.  The total amount of public-private investment in all of these ventures is $7,450,191.

The projects that were approved during this round of funding include:

Applicant: Scott Township

Project Description: Repaving of a municipal parking lot.

        Total Project Cost: $50,732

        Amount from CRP Program: $25,000 

 

Applicant: Notari Scholarship Fund

        Project Description: Batting cage and golf cages at Pagnotti Park in Old Forge.

        Total Project Cost: $35,000

        Amount from CRP Program: $20,000

 

Applicant: Greenfield Township Baseball Association

        Project Description: New fencing at basketball court and rehabilitation of two existing baseball fields.

        Total Project Cost: $19,200

        Amount from CRP Program: $17,000

 

Applicant: Old Forge Youth Basketball

Project Description: Renovation of a basketball facility.

        Total Project Cost: $3,000

        Amount from CRP Program: $2,500

 

Applicant: Women’s Resource Center

        Project Description: Carriage House renovations, including security cameras and fencing, upgrade of the heating, electrical and plumbing systems, painting, kitchen expansion, and constructing additional bedrooms on the second floor.

        Total Project Cost: $398,086

        Amount from CRP Program: $20,000

 

Applicant: West Scranton Neighborhood Association

Project Description: Renovation of the community center.

        Total Project Cost: $315,000

        Amount from CRP Program: $15,000

Projects will continue to be reviewed and funded throughout 2015.  Boroughs, municipalities, townships and nonprofit entities are encouraged to submit applications for projects that are ready to start so that the Community Re-Invest Program can help to successfully complete them.
