Northeast Vegetable Meeting

Local commercial vegetable growers are invited to attend the Northeast Vegetable Meeting on Thursday, January 21, at the Newton Ransom Fire Company, Newton Ransom Boulevard, Clarks Summit.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. and will end at 3 p.m. This is a great opportunity for growers to hear from the specialists conducting the latest vegetable research.

The morning session will provide information on tomato disease management, transitioning the farm from one generation to the next, what broccoli varieties perform the best in Pennsylvania, and an update from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

The afternoon will focus on new options for cucumber beetle management, soil borne cucurbit disease management, a foliar disease update, and practical tips to minimize spray drift when applying pesticides.

The registration fee for the meeting is $26 per person if received by Thursday, January 14, or $36 if received after the deadline or at the door. The registration fee includes morning refreshments, hot buffet lunch, and handouts.

Interested parties can register by going to: http://extension.psu.edu/vegetable-fruit/events and click on the January 21 Vegetable Meeting or by calling 570-988-3950 and asking for Beth.

This meeting has been approved for two core and three category applicator recertification credits.

Questions should be directed to John Esslinger at 570-784-6660.
