County To “Light-Up” The Government Center At The Globe On December 1

Time flies by as evidenced by the fact that the Holiday season is officially upon us.

And, once again, the fond memories of days gone by will be rekindled and shine brightly when the Lackawanna County Commissioners flick the switch to light-up The Lackawanna County Government Center at The Globe on Friday, December 1, with festivities beginning at 4:30 PM.

The evening’s activities will kick-off with holiday selections performed by the choir of Scranton High School.  A program with brief remarks by local officials will follow.

The switch will be turned “on” at approximately 5 PM to illuminate The Globe.

The Scranton Chapter of UNICO National and LaFesta Italiana of Lackawanna County are donating the refreshments for the ceremony and their members will be serving the hot chocolate and cookies.

There will also be a visit from Santa Claus.

During the Holiday Market, COLTS will be picking-up and dropping-off passengers in the 100 block of Franklin Avenue.

The first floor window bays will be festively decorated for the season by ScrantonMade.  Holiday designs will also adorn the windows on the Penn Avenue side of the building.

The annual Holiday Market will be held at the Globe on December 1, 2 and 3. The times are: Friday, 5 PM – 9 PM; Saturday 11 AM – 7 PM; and Sunday 11 AM – 4 PM, featuring 150 vendors.

A new wrinkle has been added to the Holiday Market this year – ice skating.  Visitors and families can enjoy free skating during the hours that the fair is open.  People will be asked to make a donation to Make-A-Wish, which will help to cover the cost of granting a wish for a Lackawanna County youngster and his/her family.

When the doors open on Saturday, December 2, at 11 AM, the first 200 shoppers will receive a free “goodie” bag.

A variety of musical entertainment is scheduled for the three days of the event for everyone to enjoy.

Parking will be FREE in only the Electric City Garage on December 1, 2 & 3.
