PEMA Reminder: Flood Cleanup Helpline Closes Aug. 31

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency is reminding people impacted by recent flooding that the public inquiry helpline established to connect survivors with volunteers to help clean up closes at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.

The helpline was established Aug. 17 after heavy rains in July and August left many homes and businesses in central and eastern Pennsylvania damaged or destroyed. So far, 329 people have contacted PEMA to ask for assistance. PEMA is working with multiple organizations from both inside and outside the commonwealth to organize volunteers to help with tasks like mucking out basements, removing damaged flooring and drywall, and moving debris.

Anyone who still needs help cleaning up is encouraged to call 272-200-3211 before 8 p.m. Friday. After that time, citizens should contact their county emergency management agency for assistance. Contact information for county emergency management agencies is available on the ReadyPA webpage.
