Carbondale Public Library Anniversary

The Lackawanna County Commissioners recognized the 145th anniversary of the Carbondale Public Library with a proclamation. Founded in 1873 as the Young Men’s Library of Carbondale, it is the oldest member of the area’s library system. It is a storehouse of information, cataloguing newspapers and documents dating back to 1828. It has moved to several buildings in the community in an effort to keep up with the demand for resources and books. In 1997, it moved from Sixth Avenue to a newly constructed facility.
