Emergency Assistance From The Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation

Temporary emergency funding to support either Pennsylvania veterans or non-profit groups that serve veterans is available through the Lackawanna County Veterans Affairs Office.

The Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation is another valuable tool the County’s Veterans Affairs Office is able to offer to area veterans and their families in need of emergency assistance.

County Veterans Affairs Director Robert Tuffy explained that a simple application for aid needs to be filled-out and submitted along with a brief narrative and support documentation (files and other backup data) to his office.

Mr. Tuffy and his staff are able to provide assistance in completing the application.  They review the paperwork and generally provide an answer in two or three business days.  The average grants are about $1,000, depending on need.

By monitoring the application process, the County’s Veterans Affairs staff may also be able to suggest other forms of assistance and benefits that may be available.

The Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization.  It was established to:

* Provide assistance and support for Pennsylvania veterans and their families;

* Make grants to other recognized charitable foundations that assist veterans;

* Undertake charitable programs and projects;

* Assist Pennsylvania veterans in need of shelter and the necessities of life;

* Enable veterans to have access to accurate up-to-date information on assistance; and

* Honor the rich history and heritage of Pennsylvania veterans and their contributions and  sacrifices.
