Winter Meeting Planned for Northeast Tree Fruit Growers

Penn State Extension has planned the Northeast Fruit Meeting for tree fruit growers in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  The meeting will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, at the Iron Skillet Restaurant in the Petro Plaza, Avoca. The meeting is designed to address current challenges with the latest research based information. The program highlights include:

  • Fungicide Resistance Management Strategies for Apple Scab, Powdery Mildew, and Brown Rot
  • The Impact of BMSB Management on IPM Systems in Fruit Orchards
  • Bacterial Spot Management on Stone Fruit
  • Managing Perennial and Other Hard-to-Control Weeds in New and Established Pome and Stone Fruit Orchards
  • Pesticide Applicator Training

This meeting is a great opportunity for growers to hear from researchers who are working on the critical issues facing the tree fruit industry. Growers also have a chance to interact with each other and find out what’s going on at other orchards.

Contact the Extension office in Lackawanna County (570-963-6842) to receive a meeting announcement which explains the registration procedure. The registration fee is $20 if received by February 9. Registration received after February 9 and at the door is $30.00.  The registration fee includes morning refreshments and a hot buffet lunch. Mark your 2013 calendar now, and plan to attend the Northeast Fruit Meeting on February 14.
