Jeter to Rehab with RailRiders Starting Saturday

Yankees’ Star Shortstop Scheduled for at Least Five Innings

Moosic, Pa. – With a season-long nine-game homestand underway, there is another big reason to make PNC Field your destination in the coming days.  Derek Jeter will begin a minor league rehab assignment with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) starting Saturday, July 6.  He is scheduled to play at least five innings at shortstop in the RailRiders’ 7:05 p.m. contest against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies).

Jeter is a career .313 hitter in the big leagues with 3,304 hits.  The 13-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove winner has never played for SWB.  The lone rehab stints for the sure-fire Hall of Famer over the last decade both came with Double-A Trenton in 2003 and 2011.  The American League’s Rookie of the Year in 1996 is coming off of an outstanding 2012 in which he hit .316 and led the bigs with 216 hits, one of his eight career campaigns with over 200 knocks.

The game will be broadcast live locally on My Network TV with the Voice of the RailRiders John Sadak and John Mendola of FOX56 on the call.
