Lackawanna County is in the process of establishing a county department of health and is seeking for a community health nurse. The mission of the Lackawanna Health Department is to prevent illness, protect and preserve health and well-being and promote healthy lifestyle choices. Part of the Communicable Disease Program, LDOH Clinic, will provide medical examination, screening, evaluation, and treatment to clients with a focus on Tuberculosis (TB), sexually transmitted infections (STI), HIV, and syphilis; provides education to encourage and promote prevention; provides immunizations, referrals for substance abuse, sexual abuse, mental health or other medical issues (hypertension, diabetes, asthma, etc.) as needed; participates and facilitates research activities through collaboration with the Center for Health and Human Services Research and Action (CHHSRA); reports all cases of bacterial STI, HIV, syphilis, and other communicable diseases to the PA Department of Health. This position therefore will support the health department’s mission of coordinating and delivering those services to all County residents coming through the clinic.
