West Nile Virus Detected in Scranton

West Nile virus has been detected in Lackawanna County.  A positive mosquito sample was collected in Scranton on May 21 near Robinson Park.  This is the first positive sample for 2024 and no human cases have been reported in Lackawanna County at this time. 

Officials from Lackawanna County and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection are responding to the situation.  Residents in the area are advised to take precautions when outdoors and to eliminate standing water on their property.
