Call for Artists! Government Center Penn Avenue Mural Project

Lackawanna County Government Center Penn Avenue Mural Project

Lackawanna County aims to brighten up the back of the Government Center on Penn Avenue (the rear of the building at 123 Wyoming Avenue) between Lackawanna Avenue and Biden Street. The deadline to apply is Saturday August 27, 2022, by midnight.
Please see the application here, or on the Arts & Culture page.

The theme of the project is Lackawanna County: Past, Present and Future. Currently there are seven individual corrugated metal panels on the wall. The county is seeking to commission artists to design and implement a mural directly on the metal.

Artists will be selected on portfolio and skills/experience with similar projects and ideally should have some experience with metal or similar surfaces, street art, murals, and/or airbrushing techniques. Upon selection, artists will be assigned panels to create a design that reflects the theme and work directly with the county on the final design. This may take a collaborative format. Commission fees will be based on design and implementation and discussed with artists upon selection.

Design topics that may be explored and assigned to selected artists:

  • Architecture
  • Arts/Culture
  • Education/Technology/Science
  • Ethnic Heritage and Cultural Diversity
  • Historical Events
  • Industry
  • Land & Recreation
