Speaker's Bureau

Our recycling education specialists are available to talk to community and civic groups as well as to school and scout groups. Our lively presentations cover a variety of interesting topics:
  • In "The How, What and Why of Recycling" we demonstrate how to prepare materials for recycling and show how these products come back to life when they are recycled.
  • "Environmental Shopping" shows consumers how to reduce waste, where to "buy recycled", and how to locate and use products made from earth-friendly materials.
  • "Backyard Composting and Grasscycling" includes slides and handouts, and offers helpful tips and how to’s.
  • "Green Cleaning" instructs how to clean without using harmful chemicals.

Lackawanna County’s Environmental Office Specialists conduct waste assessments for local businesses and institutions, advise on how to implement waste reduction programs through recycling, and offer cost-cutting techniques.

Services to Municipalities

Lackawanna County’s Environmental Office works with municipalities, providing technical assistance on selecting recycling vehicles and containers, program economics, and educational programs. We also help municipalities complete grant applications.
